Svoboda a přímá demokracie

Svoboda a přímá demokracie – Tomio Okamura (SPD) - is a parliamentary party established in May 2015.

Just after registration in June 2015, SPD attracted 9000 membership applications in the first three months, making the movement one of the largest political organisations in the Czech Republic.

He has been in the European Parliament since 2019.

He is a member of the Committee on Agriculture and Rural Development (AGRI) and a substitute member of the Committee on the Environment, Public Health and Food Safety (ENVI).

He is a member of the Delegation for relations with the People's Republic of China (D-CN) and the Delegation to the EU-Kazakhstan, EU-Kyrgyzstan, EU-Uzbekistan and EU-Tajikistan Parliamentary Cooperation Committees and member of the Delegation in the EU-Russia Parliamentary Cooperation Committee (D-RU).

He graduated from the Faculty of General Medicine of Charles University.

He then worked as a psychiatrist.

From 1993 to 2015 he was a member of the CSSD.

From 1998 to 2002 he was a Member of the Parliament of the Czech Republic and from 1998 to 1999 he was Minister of Health.

Between 2005 and 2008, he was the director of the Bohnice Psychiatric Hospital.

Until 2017, he was Research and Education Deputy Minister for Science.

He was a member of the Prague-Dubeč municipal council.

He has been a SPD member since 2019.
