Project 'Pavia and Europe'
The project "Pavia and Europe" has the aim of enhancing the role of the city recognized as "Crossroads of Europe", meaning a crossroads of European cultural and religious paths that meet here.
Even more so in this period of "social isolation", of closure of cultural and public institutions, it is strategic to enhance history and monuments.
Each place illustrated in the videos (link below) has a strong link to European history, firstly because it is located along the Via Francigena and secondly because of the peculiarities that characterise each and every place with the European influence.
Throughout history, Pavia has demonstrated a broad European scope given the presence of religious paths, the fact that many European kings and emperors resided here, the famous Battle of Pavia fought between Francis I and Charles V, a prestigious University and its historical and centuries-old commercial vocation.
Among the monuments that will be acquainted through a virtual tour we may find: San Michele Maggiore, San Pietro in ciel d'Oro, the Visconteo Castle, the University of Pavia, San Teodoro, the Borromeo College, the Castiglioni Brugnatelli College, the Malaspina Palace, the Crypt of San Felice, the Crypt of S. Eusebio, San Lanfranco, San Lazzaro, Santa Maria di Canepanova. Santa Maria in Betlem the Broletto of Pavia.
Italy, a country with a major cultural heritage and the highest number of Unesco sites, has the task of passing on this wealth to the new generations. Cultural memory is fundamental not only for the identity of a nation or the community, but also for that of each individual.
